Jason Whatley at The Alex
Launceston-based pianist Jason Whatley has been a fixture of the Tasmanian jazz scene since the mid-90s. His pianistic heroes include Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, Blossom Dearie, John Lewis, Oscar Peterson, and Herbie Hancock. Jason has released two albums featuring his compositions, “Newfound Cool” (2013) and “On the Beak” (2020) and performed a tribute to Thelonious Monk at this year’s Mona Foma Festival.
The downstairs Alex Bar, Lounge & Pool Hall, with their ‘old style corner pub’ feel are favourites with the locals.
