RAN Band Melbourne Jazz Ensemble at the RSL
The RAN Band Melbourne Jazz Ensemble features seven of the Navy’s finest jazz musicians, performing a diverse repertoire of vocal and instrumental jazz. They have played for audiences across Australia and the World.
When the Royal Australian Navy Jazz Ensemble were last at the Devonport Jazz Festival in 2018 they played to a booked-out room at the Devonport RSL. They even had people out of their seats and on the dance floor. The ensemble is excited to return to the RSL in 2022 and will present a program of well-known swinging standards, jazz classics, ballads and bossa-novas.
The ensemble features Able Seaman Maggie James (vocals), Leading Seaman Gregory Smith (saxophone), Chief Petty Officer Robert Flynn (trombone), Able Seaman Martin Duck (trumpet), Leading Seaman Julian Foord (keys), Able Seaman Haydn Murtagh (bass), and Leading Seaman Musician Bruce McIntyre(drums).
